The ACB collaborated with the Pew Charitable Trusts to develop a project that focused on the proposed Target 2 of the then post-2020 global biodiversity framework, specifically the 30 per cent target on marine protected areas. The project is based on the virtual regional dialogue Protecting the Oceans: UN Convention on Biological Diversity’s Critical Role held on 21 May 2020. The ACB and Pew Charitable Trusts enhanced efforts to help governments clarify and determine possible contributions to achieve the proposed global targets for marine protected areas, including Other Effective Conservation Measures and area-based management tools within marine biodiversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction (BBNJ) .
