The project aimed to strengthen the range of service of the ACB in the area of biodiversity and its relevance for sustainable development and climate change. The project supported the ACB in its role in the ASEAN integration process benefitting the vulnerable population of the AMS who depend on the ecosystem and biodiversity resources for their subsistence. The project worked primarily at a regional (ASEAN-wide) level and adopted an integrated and multilevel approach.

  • Ecosystem Management: Development, validation and dissemination of ecosystem-related adaptation models to enhance the understanding of the interrelation between biodiversity and ecosystems in a changing climate.
  • Biodiversity and Economy: Supports policies and actions for valuing biodiversity in the context of ecosystem services through awareness raising and integrating ecosystem services into sustainable development. It involves the development of concepts and instruments that enhance the use of economic and financial tools for ecosystem and biodiversity such as Access and Benefit Sharing and Payment for Environment Services (PES) following the Economics and Ecosystems and Biodiversity approach.

The ACB provided capacity building support to enhance strategies to appropriately address the interface between climate change and biodiversity.

For the period 2010-2015, the BCCP achieved significant outcomes in providing capacity building on biodiversity and climate change related activities. The BCCP, in coordination with partners, supported the conduct, among others, of regional workshops related to REDD-Plus including relevant safeguards,  PES, dialogue in promoting climate change and biodiversity in ASEAN region, and other related themes.

From 2012 to 2015, the ACB and GIZ completed the implementation of BCCP Pilot projects supporting on-the-ground activities in selected ASEAN Heritage Parkss. These pilot projects were oriented towards regional policy development focusing on ecosystems management and enhancing economic benefits from biodiversity.
