ASEAN Heritage Parks

Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve

Sungei Buloh is Singapore’s first and only protected wetland reserve, and home to over 500 species of tropical flora and fauna. Covering 130 hectares of the northwest section of the country, the Park is located close to the Kranji Reservoir, and houses the most extensive mangroves remaining in Singapore.

Unique Flora: Sea hibiscus (Hibiscus tiliaceus), Tui (Dolichandrone spathacea), sea teak (Podocarpus polystachyus), cattail or bulrush (Typha angustifolia); water lettuce (Pistia stratiotes); water banana (Ludwigia adscendens); orchid, Cymbidium bicolor; climber;Hoya verticillata; bird’s nest fern (Asplenium nidus); mangrove species; buah cheri (Muntingia calabura)

Unique Fauna: The smooth-coated otter; crab-eating macaque; water monitor; estuarine crocodile; palm civet; large-tailed nightjar; collared scops owl; lesser dog-faced fruit bat; dog-faced water snake; fireflies

Habitat Types: Mangrove forest is the main wetland type. There are also mudflats in the intertidal areas, a network of brackish water ponds, freshwater ponds, areas of grassland, and patches of secondary forest.

The Park features guided walks, educational tours for children, bird watching activities, and talks on marine fish. A Wireless Learning Trail on the mangrove boardwalk is another key feature in the wetland reserve.
