SGP I - MYANMAR
Myanmar is the second most biodiverse country among the ASEAN Member States, after Indonesia. Its location allows a mix of wildlife species from north, south, and southeast Asia. Myanmar has 15 biodiversity corridors that serve as linkages between key biodiversity areas.
Myanmar has seven ASEAN Heritage Parks (AHPs), with Nat Ma Taung being the youngest. All of these AHPs are key biodiversity areas that cover a variety of landscapes.
Under the SGP, four AHPs are being supported: Alaungdaw Kathapa National Park (AKNP), Nat Ma Taung National Park (NMTNP), Indawgyi Lake Wildlife Sanctuary (ILWS), and Meinmahla Kyun Wildlife Sanctuary (MKWS).
The first call for proposals of SGP I – Myanmar focused on developing Collaborative Management Plans (CMP). These CMPs were approved and adopted by the Forest Department of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation (MONREC) on February 27, 2018. They will serve as the basis for succeeding interventions in the AHPs.
